John L. Perko Blackhawk Classic Marching Band Competition Oct. 18

Seven high school marching bands from western North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia will descend upon Weaverville, NC on Saturday, October 18 at 5:00 p.m. for the 4th Annual John L. Perko Blackhawk Classic Marching Band Competition.  The public is invited to North Buncombe High’s Blackhawks Stadium to enjoy great music, award-winning BBQ, and a fun time while supporting talented young musicians. Tickets for the family friendly event are $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for students, with children under 5 free.

Schools participating in the event include the following:
• Enka High School, Candler, NC - Roger Caldwell, Director
• Clyde A. Erwin High School, Asheville, NC - David Sulzman, Director
• Farragut High School, Knoxville, TN - Ron Rogers, Director
• Madison High School, Marshall, NC - Kyle Hensley, Director
• Charles D. Owen High School, Black Mountain, NC - Jim Lewis, Director
• Pound High School, Pound, VA - Steve Stiltner, Director
• Robbinsville High School, Robbinsville, NC - Joseph Earp, Director

Before the awards ceremony, anticipated to occur shortly before 9 p.m., there will be an exhibition performance by the North Buncombe High Marching Blackhawks, D. Sanford Boone Director, and the Mars Hill College Drumline, Michael Robinson, Director.

North Buncombe High School recently took home the Overall Sweepstakes Award at the 34th Annual Land of the Sky Marching Band Championship. Of the 26 bands at that contest, NBHS had the highest band score of the day.
